Kmail eMail

Kmail is the email client that comes with KDE, URL http://www.kde.org/. The version featured here is from KDE2.0.1-1 Stable.

To run Kmail, type kmail & or select it from the K menu. The opening screen will look similar to the screen shot below:

To configure the program, select Settings | Configuration and select Composer:

In the

Reply to sender:
Reply to all: - sections can be setup to automatically add information to the reply message.

For example:

Reply to sender: On %D You wrote:, would give the starting message "On 12/2/001 You wrote:"
Reply to all: On %D %F wrote:, would give the starting message "On 12/2/001 Username wrote:"
Forward: Forward Message
Indentation: >%_

Next select Identity from the left hand side:

Enter the required information here:

Name: Your Name
Organisation: Your organisation, this can be left blank.
E-mail address: Your e-mail address
Reply to address: Your reply to address, this can be left blank, it could also be your e-mail address or a different email address, ie your work e-mail address.

If you wish to specify a signature, make sure the radio button is checked and type in your signature, for example:

  Your name
  Your web address.

Then select Network

For the server name enter: post.demon.co.uk
The Port number is: 25
Then click the Add button.

Select the POP3 radio button and click OK.
This will open a screen similar to the one below.

In this section the account details are entered:

Name: Demon Mail
Login: Your hostname
Password: Your pop3 password
Host: pop3.demon.co.uk
Port: 110

There are several other options to choose here, we at Demon suggest using the following:
Check the boxes as suggested below:
Store POP password in configuration file. (save your password, which will save you entering it each time you collect mail).
Delete mail from server.
Retrieve all mail from server.
Finally click OK.
