Telnet password

How to change you password using Microsoft Telnet
Please see our Important Notice, we recommend that you read it before you proceed.

Changing your password on the Demon password server is simple, however you should be aware that Telnet, on any system, is not very forgiving when it comes to typing errors, so type carefully.

Make sure you have a connection to Demon.

To open a Microsoft Telnet session to the Demon password server, open a DOS or Command prompt. This is done by clicking the Start button on the task bar, choose Run and then OK.

[ Run Menu ]

You should see a similar window to the screen shot above.
Type telnet password.demon.co.uk and press OK.

   [ Login/Password Menu ]

If this is the first time you have used Microsoft Telnet, local echo will be switched off by default.

This means you will not see what you are typing. To turn on local echo goto Terminal select Preferences, and under the heading of Terminal options place a tick in the box for Local Echo and click OK.

You will then see a screen similar to the screen shot above.
Type in your hostname and press Return then, type your Login password and press Return.

You will not see anything when you type your password, this is normal.

See our Names & Password Conventions guide.

[ Password Change Menu ]

At this point you have to choose which option you want.

Option [1] will allow you to change your Standard DialUp password
Option [2] will allow you to change your POP3 password
Option [3] will allow you to remove your POP3 password
Option [9] is the Finish and Update the changes
Option [0] is the Exit without Saving option
Select the option of your choice and press Return.

Select option [1] and press Return.

[ New Password Menu ]

As in the screen shot above it asks you to type in your new password.

You must use a password of at least five characters consisting of one lower case character one uppercase character and a numeral character, this makes it hard for anyone else to guess your password.

See our Names & Password Conventions guide.

It then explains that what you type will not be printed to the screen for security reasons so type carefully. When you have entered your choice of password press Return.

[ Confirm Password Menu ]

As you can see from the above example, if you do not use a mixture of uppercase, lowercase and numeral characters, it will ask you to enter the password again using this format.

Once a password using the proper format is entered you will then be asked to re-type your new password for confirmation.
When you have done this press Return.

[ Option List Menu ]

You will then be presented with the option list again.

[ Save Settings Menu ]

Choose option [9] to update and save your settings.

You will then receive a message that your information has been updated and network.

You will then be asked to press Enter to exit the program. that it may take fifteen minutes to propagate around the Demon You will then see the Connection to Host lost message box.

Clicking OK or pressing Return, will close the message box.

Then just close the Microsoft Telnet window with the X in the top right-hand corner.
