Security & online ordering The Internet was not initially designed with security in mind. Specifically, it has no intrinsic features for user identity authentication and encryption of sensitive information. For many protocols (such as HTTP, the transport layer for the world wide web), security has been provided after the fact by adding a layer on top of the transport protocol. The standard security protocol for HTTP is SSL, the secure socket layer. Demon uses SSL with 'Demon Commerce', our electronic commerce software. When using Demon Commerce, shoppers ordering goods from your web site have their personal information and credit card details encrypted. Sensitive information is therefore protected at all times: while it is being entered by the shopper; when it is being communicated to the bank; and while it is stored on our system.
