Speed

The service operates downstream at up to 2Mbps maximum (dependant on the line bandwidth available) and upstream at up to 250kbps maximum. This provides you with always on unmetered access and unrestricted 24 hour TCP/IP traffic, allowing you to send and receive emails 24 hours a day.

Contention

The service is contended at 50:1 (i.e. up to 49 other users could share the bandwidth).

Installation

Broadband requires a standard analogue phone line provided by BT. The service can be taken from any extension socket subject to the correct use of microfilters. The service is a self-install offering, allowing the customer the freedom and flexibility to source your own DSL modem and appropriate number of microfilters to support the installation or select one of the hardware options available.

Host name

Customers hostname is in the format of hostname.demon.co.uk (i.e. the same style as our Standard Dial-Up - SDU)

Email

Unlimited POP3 email addresses.
Collection of Demon email is via POP3 only, email must be sent using SMTP.

IP address assignment

A single static IP address is offered. As you will be permanently connected to the Internet whenever you computer is switched on, it is advisable to install a security system, such as a firewall with this service.

Router and Modem Selection

We offer 3 Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) options with the RSL HomeOffice product range, all of which are supported by our Technical Support teams. The ST330 modem is our entry-level product and is ideal for single-user connections. The ST510 is a 4 port Ethernet router, giving you the flexibility to network your home or office. The ST580 Wireless Router gives you the option to create your own Wireless network. We also offer a choice of Wireless cards for PCs and laptops, so you can purchase everything you require to get up and running quickly.
