2007 Enhancements
Enhanced homepages service goes live 14th June 2007.
Homepages is web space that allows you to run a website. It is bundled FREE with chargeable Standard Dial Up, HomeOffice Broadband, Premier Connect Plus dial up accounts. The benefits of the enhanced service are:
- Friendlier disk space quota management.
- Easier to self-manage Bandwidth quota.
- Streaming;
- SDU and Premier Connect Plus dial up accounts get MP3 streaming in addition to Real Video and Real Audio, plus the opportunity to use their website to participate in our QuickTime streaming beta trial.
- Demon HomeOffice Broadband users are now entitled to stream from their websites.
- Separated passwords allow you to employ 3rd party web designers securely.
- Ability to buy upgrades to professional packages with domain name, own CGI scripts, bigger quotas, MySQL database and more.

Changes to the homepages service in detail
The following changes will be made to the Homepages service with effect 14th June 2007.

Disk space

20 MB hard limit.
|
20 MB soft limit. 30 MB hard limit.
Go over soft quota and email warning sent to: webmaster@USERNAME.demon.co.uk.
Go over soft quota for too long and account suspended.
Go over hard quota and account will be suspended straight away
(to protect the server from abuse).

Disk usage shown at FTP login.

See the 'Quota Usage' graphs on your control panel.

Bandwidth
|

60 MB bandwidth limit per day.
Sites exceeding 60 MB per day for 7 consecutive days and sites exceeding 150 MB for 3 days in a month were moved to the resource limited server.
|
2.5 GB soft limit (raised April 2008) and 4 GB hard limit per rolling 30 days.
Go over soft quota and email warning sent to: webmaster@USERNAME.demon.co.uk
Go over soft quota for too long and account suspended.
Go over hard quota and account will be suspended straight away
(to protect the server from abuse).

You may access your usage warnings log at bwusage.txt.

See the 'Quota Usage' graphs on your control panel.
The 'Statistics' and 'Log analysis' on your control panel will give details of your bandwidth usage.

Streaming
|

Stream Real Audio or Real Video from your website (max two concurrent streams).

Stream MP3, QuickTime, Real Audio or Real Video from your website (max two concurrent streams).

Suspended sites

Site displayed error:
403 - Access Forbidden
or
503 - Service Unavailable

Site will display error: 400 - Bad request .
The 'Quota Usage' section of your control panel will confirm if your site has exceeded its quota limits.

Password changes

Were linked to your SDU dial-up or Broadband access password
i.e. changing one would also change the other.

Now separated (although they will initially be set to the same thing)
Password changes for your Homepages site are now done via your control panel.
One advantage to having a separate password is that if you have a 3rd party designer managing your web site you will not have to reveal your Dial-up or Broadband connection password to that 3rd party.
