Demon Dial-up Home500 Conversion

Please see our Important Notice, we recommend that you read it before you proceed.

You will first need to install and configure your ADSL Modem using the Broadband Installation Guide within your pack. It will now be necessary for you to test that BT have enabled ADSL on your telephone line, before converting your dial up account.

Once your Demon account has been converted to ADSL, you will no longer be able to connect using your Demon dial up account. Therefore it is important that the test in Step 1 is completed.

Step 1 - Line Test

To confirm your telephone line has been enabled to support ADSL, you will need to use the following details to connect and test the service. Please enter the details below into Dial Up Networking screen. If you are using a Mac you will need to enter the details into Remote Access or Internet Connect.

Username - "bt_test_user@your connection pipe"

Your connection pipe is the section of your ADSL login after @ for example home500.dslaccess.co.uk

Password - This is not generally required and can be left blank depending on the ADSL equipment you are using. If you are prompted for a password, please enter a dummy password e.g. abcdef

Telephone Number – This is not generally required and can be left blank depending on the ADSL equipment you are using. If you are prompted for a telephone number, please enter 0 (zero) for the area code and 38 for the telephone number.

After entering this information please attempt to connect. If your equipment reports that it has successfully authenticated or connected, the test is complete and your line has been successfully enabled for ADSL by BT. Please disconnect and proceed with the conversion process outlined in step 2.

However, if it appears you have not authenticated or connected successfully, it is likely the above test has failed. Please check you have entered the correct server settings and relevant Modem information. These Generic Settings can be found in the Settings and Information page in the installation guide within your pack, or online

If you require further assistance please contact the Helpdesk on 0871 271 9666 and they should be able to help diagnose the problem.
