Demon Shadow Primary DNS Service

This service is available at no additional cost to all customers whose domain name is hosted by and delegated to Demon. Allowing you to maintain control of your DNS, this unique service offers the following advantages:

• The Demon Internet Hostmasters monitor your DNS for errors and zone transfer failures.
• Should your designated name server be unavailable for any reason, Demon can resume authority of your DNS to prevent loss of service.
• As the domain remains delegated solely to Demon's name servers, your bandwidth isn't lost to external queries.

The Shadow Primary DNS service should only be used by customers who plan to frequently update their DNS and who are experienced with name server configuration and maintenance, DNS, and BIND. By mastering your own DNS you will be taking full responsibility for the information within it being valid. If you incorrectly administer your DNS, the results could include:

• Invisibility of your web site and other public-facing hosts.
• Loss of FTP access to various sites (including ftp.demon.co.uk).
• Loss of incoming e-mail. (Mail cannot reach you.)
• Loss of outgoing e-mail. (Mail sent from your network will bounce due to reverse lookup failure.)

To have the service enabled, you will need to read and adhere to Demon's Minimum Requirements for serving primary DNS using the Shadow Primary DNS service. You will also need to complete and return the conditions of service agreement.

Please note that the Shadow Primary DNS service is only available to customers whose primary name server resides on a network with a dedicated connection to the Internet (leased line, ADSL, Demon Server Hosting, etc.), although the name server does not have to reside on a network with Internet connectivity provided by Demon.

The Shadow Primary DNS service is not available to any customer whose primary name server resides on a network supplied with Internet connectivity via any dial-up service (Standard Dial-up, Super Showroom / ISDN), including networks connected via the Demon Premier Connect service (or its equivalent).
