Turnpike Mail and News Client

Turnpike is an off-line email and news client for Windows-based computers used by many Demon customers free of charge. This announcement contains information about;

  • How to obtain a free CD copy of Turnpike Six before the CD is withdrawn
  • A new release of Turnpike Six due at the end of March 2006
  • How to avoid losing foreign language spell check capability

*CD withdrawal.*

We will no longer supply Turnpike Six on CD from 30th March 2006 or when stocks run out, whichever is earlier. Please refer to the following link:

http://www.demon.net/toolkit/downloads/upgrade.html

*How to obtain a free Turnpike Six CD.*

Turnpike users wishing to hold a CD copy of the free Turnpike Six v6.05 program for their own maintenance purposes should order one, free of charge, before it is withdrawn and ceases to be available via any support channel.

To request your CD now please visit:

http://www.olr.uk.demon.net/turnpikecd/

Customers who are unsure they have the most recent CD can identify the correct one by the part number JB30L on the label.

Note that the CD only contains a copy of the same file that
you can download from our FTP server.

*New release of Turnpike Six & International language issue.*

At the end of March the download site will contain a new version of Turnpike Six v6.06

This version will contain minor maintenance fixes but, unlike earlier versions of Turnpike, the spell checker will NOT be supplied with foreign language dictionaries. These are recommended for those who send email or post to newsgroups in languages other than English.

To keep the "International ProofReader facility" it will be necessary to install new versions (such as v6.06) "over the top of" an earlier version of Turnpike that included the facility.

The effect of the announcements above is that versions "to install over" will shortly no longer be available. Hence it is vital that customers (particularly those still using v5 who may wish to upgrade to Turnpike Six) to ensure that they have such a version to hand before the deadline of 30th March 2006.

No CD is planned for Turnpike Six v6.06.
