Technical info
Speed The service operates downstream at up to a 8Mbps* and upstream at up to 448kbps, offering always-on, unmetered access** and unrestricted 24-hour TCP/IP traffic. The speed of a broadband connection is determined by the distance between your telephone line and the local BT exchange.
Installation Broadband requires a standard analogue phone line provided by BT. The service can be taken from any extension socket subject to the correct use of microfilters. The service is a self-install offering, so no engineer visits are required. Demon Home broadband comes with an optional Alcatel Speedtouch 510 router and two microfilters.
Web space No web space is provided with Demon Home broadband.
Host name Customers are allocated a standard hostname, for example, username.hostname.demon.co.uk

Anti phishing filtering on your Demon email helps protect against the growing threat posed by Internet crime
Anti virus outbreak protection for unknown viruses attached to incoming emails, within hours of a new outbreak on the Internet. This complements your desktop anti virus software which is able to block known viruses but can remain vulnerable to new outbreaks until an update or patch is installed on your equipment
Configurable for encrypted POP3 email pick up – handy for wireless or mobile access.

If you encrypt or sign your email using third party PGP software, use the Demon UK key server to distribute your public PGP key free of charge.
IP address assignment Demon Home Broadband is provided with a dynamic IP address, in other words, your IP address will be allocated at the start of your session. As you may choose to be permanently connected to the Internet whenever your computer is switched on, it is advisable to install a security system, such as a firewall with this service. For further information on our approved Firewalls please contact our product specialists.
