THUS Selected To Drive UK's First Consumer Video Phone With Two-Way Picture Messaging To Mobiles

Amstrad's E3 supported by Successful Ongoing Relationship Between Amstrad and THUS

THUS plc has announced that it has been selected by Amstrad to drive the new E3 Videophone being launched today. The latest addition to the popular Amstrad e-m@iler digital telephone series will feature the UK's first affordable videophone plus two-way picture messaging to mobiles, offering an all-in-one communications device.

THUS and Amstrad have successfully worked together on previous generations of the e-m@iler, adding two-way SMS and email forwarding to the device as network innovations have advanced. The new functionality of the Amstrad E3 takes advantage of developments in THUS's network technology, which support multimedia messaging.

The Amstrad E3 combines the general communications functionality of a PC, landline telephone and mobile within one device. The device is primarily aimed at consumers, although it is envisaged that SoHo and SME's will also benefit from its many features. With videophone, email, Internet access, two-way SMS texting, two way picture sending to mobiles, photosend facility via email plus all the features associated with a fully featured digital telephone answer machine this product is the ultimate communication device. Video calling is possible between two E3 emailers and users are charged for all the "pay as you use" services via their normal telecom provider's bill.

"Amstrad is dedicated to continually enhancing the user experience of its e-m@iler base and we have a strong track record of innovation that enables us to help Amstrad deliver on this aim," said Phil Male, Chief Operating Officer, THUS plc. "Using our advanced network capabilities, we have worked with Amstrad on the development of its e-m@iler series since 2001 and together, we have continued to update and enhance the e-m@iler service since then. Assisting in the delivery of the two way picture sending to mobiles is yet a further illustration of our delivery of innovative solutions to our customers."

"The E3 is the result of detailed research into customer needs. This product takes the emailer concept to a new level. THUS's network and their work behind the scenes has helped us deliver groundbreaking solutions," said Simon Sugar, Amstrad's Commercial Director. "We can now offer consumers reliable email, voice, Internet, SMS, MMS, photo sending and video call services all in one affordable and easy to use device".
