THUS Wins Open Tender For Multi-Million Pound Scottish Power Contract

THUS plc today announced that it has extended its contract with ScottishPower following a year long competitive tender process. THUS has been providing ScottishPower Group with a fully managed solution covering voice and data services across all its UK sites for the past six years. When the multi-million pound contract came up for renewal, ScottishPower embarked on a rigorous open tender process that saw THUS compete with a number of other leading telecom operators. THUS was chosen on the basis of its proven quality of service and competitive pricing.

"We are delighted to have retained and extended our relationship with ScottishPower. This is an extremely important managed services contract using leading edge service capability from the THUS UK national network. THUS will work with ScottishPower to develop an evolution strategy to take full advantage of the THUS Internet protocol based services, enabling ScottishPower to remain at the forefront of telecommunication developments," commented Bill Allan, Chief Executive Officer, THUS plc.

"The service that THUS has provided over the years has been very good and we are pleased that they succeeded in the open tender process. We entered into this rigorous exercise with an open mind, looking for the best deal on the market. THUS came out well above the rest," said Jim McEwan, Head of IT, ScottishPower.

THUS provides ScottishPower with a fully managed solution covering voice and data services, covering support, maintenance, consultancy, network monitoring and disaster recovery. THUS has full operational responsibility for ScottishPower's networks and is committed to clearly defined service levels for network availability and fault management times. THUS's Customer Management Centre monitors ScottishPower's networks 24 hours a day and provides the expertise to analyse and manage the fault resolution process. Network management services, such as capacity planning, help ScottishPower to identify areas of under- or over-utilisation of its infrastructure and minimise operating costs.

In addition to the delivery of a complete suite of managed services, THUS will work closely with ScottishPower in a consultancy role to develop a technology strategy for the company's migration to an MPLS backbone for IP-based services.
