THUS Washes Away The Competition

THUS selected for multi-million pound Southern Water managed services contract

THUS plc today announced that it has won a multi million pound strategic managed services contract with Southern Water. The strategic agreement will see THUS provide a full suite of telecommunications infrastructure and services including a fully managed wide area network (WAN), managed local area network (LAN), voice services, and video conferencing. A key part of the agreement involves THUS helping shape the technology roadmap for Southern Water by providing high-level strategic advice on the company's future communications requirements. The contract was awarded after a competitive tender and will initially last for three years, with the potential to extend a further two years.

"We are currently implementing a number of projects aimed at improving our services and driving down operational costs at the same time. We decided to outsource our strategic planning functions to THUS along with traditional telecoms services, due to their expertise in providing these types of services," said Roger Hunt, Business Systems Manager, Southern Water. "The success of much of our business depends on a robust and dependable infrastructure, but we needed to be sure that any new business processes we develop would integrate fully with our technical infrastructure, both now and into the future. THUS will support these projects, as diverse as reviewing network security, enabling mobile data transmission from our fieldworkers, and providing remote dial access, whilst helping to identify future areas for improvement and cost reduction in our business."

Hunt continued: "We are responsible for delivering clean, fresh water to around one million households in the South East of England and we treat and recycle dirty water from two million households. The efficiency of our voice and data communications have a direct impact on our ability to manage our business, whether it be our 104 water supply works, 390 wastewater treatment facilities or our field engineers. THUS will play a key role in helping us achieve our mission to provide efficient, value for money services to all our customers."

"As a strategic supplier to Southern Water, we will be able to work more closely with them to proactively identify areas where the company can use technology to support its current drive for more streamlined business processes," said Phil Male, Chief Operating Officer of THUS plc. "Part of our role will be to inform Southern Water of developments in IT voice and data networking, particularly those of relevance to the utility industry, and really drive forward plans to improve business agility. I am confident our extensive experience and capabilities in the management and implementation of voice, data, Internet and call centres will ensure we assist Southern Water in achieving this goal."

THUS will provide Southern Water with a full range of network infrastructure services, including data, voice, video conferencing, service management and network carrier services.
