THUS plc, the home of Demon Internet and one of the largest providers of hosting services in the UK, is upgrading its Demon Hosting Server offering through the implementation of new Sun Cobalt RaQ4r servers. The installation of this new hardware will enable Demon to offer its customers a significantly improved service, providing the customer with a greater degree of functionality and performance.

The Demon Server Hosting platform provides customers with the reliability, power and functionality of a dedicated server, but without the costs and complications of managing their own server. The maintenance and general day-to-day up-keep of the server is left to Demon, enabling the customer to focus upon building their business and brand online.

The new equipment installed by Demon has several benefits to the customer including increased reliability from dual 40GB disks, ensuring that if one disk fails, the other will maintain the web hosting services and safeguard customers' data. The customer will also benefit from a minimum 2Mb/s bandwidth, as well as greater storage space, expert 24-hour technical telephone support, a wider range of pre-installed software and applications plus significantly improved processor speed and RAM.

Demon is introducing far more functionality into its web hosting through allocating one server per customer, this will enable far more features than a standard shared web space to build an interactive site, including FrontPage extensions, ASP, PHP, Java, CGI scripts and databases. Through this new technology Demon can ensure that the end-user experience is much faster, more consistent and has greater security than before.
